The Plant Report No.2: Belgrade + Northern Serbia

Updated: May 28, 2022

A truly impressive Aesculus hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) thriving beyond belief in a miniscule planting pit. I've seen this tree succeeding in many really difficult urban locations.

More Sempervivum- or Semps as I like to call them. A popular favorite here and for good reason! Saw them sold at the farmers market too.

I see these in many places, and I am very excited that this is the case.

Betula pendula aka Silver Birch is a beauty I met with these weeping branches and mottled contrasting bark. Gonna plant one if these in my future home if my climate allows.

These magenta Clematis that are to die for.

This type of honeysuckle Lonicera sempervirens has orange and pink, and what a cute combination!!

Another gorgeous Clematis. There's not a great way to look up varieties, unfortunately, but I encourage you to get this variety if you see it in stores. It and the one above are stunning.

These wild daisies have a pink tinge!

I've never seen this before but wow.

There is apparently a lot of variety within Bellis perennis, and this is certainly one type I want to make more of.

Ipomoea batatas, aka Sweet Potato Vine

I've never seen this one bloom, but it looks JUST like a Morning Glory since the two are so closely related.

This was for sale at the farmers market, and if I could get this one to bloom more like it is now (and I lived there), I'd be buying it.
